  Almost everyone with these conditions has disordered breathing. Whether you have sleep apnoea, asthma, unexplained breathing difficulty during sport, chronic breathlessness, bronchitis, hay fever, allergies, insomnia, snoring, fatigue, anxiety/panic attacks, or even chest pain, you will almost certainly have a common but OFTEN OVERLOOKED breathing disorder. The disorder is known as HYPERVENTILATION SYNDROME. Forget the myth that hyperventilation is only associated with emotional problems. In fact, hyperventilation can mimic many serious health conditions. Hyperventilation may actually be the major cause of your symptoms. It can be a great surprise, and a great relief, to find that you have incorrect breathing habits, and not something more sinister. (Buteyko Tasmania has reputable medical references available.) There are two forms: Everyday and Sudden. It is common for the low-level Everyday form to develop over a long time, and the gradual worsening may often be overlooked. Then it reaches a certain critical point, or some trigger pushes you into the Sudden form, which can have very serious symptoms (like asthma, or chest pain). What triggers the Sudden form is often a mystery. Your Buteyko Tasmania breathing trainer assesses you for both forms of hyperventilation. If hyperventilation is found to be a significant issue for you, the trainer can then discuss your options for overcoming your hyperventilation. The trainer can recommend breathing techniques for you to practise until you have restored healthy breathing habits (and reduced symptoms) to the fullest extent possible for you. At the first session, many people say they have gained invaluable insight into their condition and start to make changes straight away. For lasting results, most people need several sessions and a home practise plan for a period of time.
