FAQschevron down

Do you help with parenting?

I can assist parents in learning how to better manage their children's behaviour by using positive reinforcement techniques.

How much does a session cost, are there any rebates and how long is a session?

I charge $200.00 per session, and a session lasts around 50 minutes. The medicare rebate is $124.50 which means that each session will cost $75.50 with referral from your G.P. through the Better Access Scheme. Private health funds may cover sessions which are not covered by Medicare.

Do you do relationship counselling?

I do relationship counselling, assisting people in exploring their negative relationship interactional cycles. I then devise a behavioural circuit-breaker which may prevent the self-perpetuating negative interaction from continuing, so that a more positive interaction can take its place. I often prescribe "homework" in order to further reinforce positive relationship changes.

Do you do hypnotherapy and what can this treat?

I do use hypnotherapy. This intervention can target a variety of issues such overeating and weight loss, smoking cessation, self-esteem and confidence, pain reduction, depression and anxiety and motivation enhancement.

Do you do EMDR and what is it?

I often use EMDR. Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing treatment (EMDR) is a powerful, quick and often effective technique which helps desensitise trauma. EMDR can remove the distress from traumatic and upsetting experiences. It can be a very effective treatment for PTSD; as well as for other upsetting events such as panic attacks, complicated grief, disturbing memories, phobias, pain, performance anxiety, stress reduction, addictions, sexual or physical abuse.

Do you treat depression?

I treat depression with psychoeducation and with cognitive behaviour therapy. I will encourage daily exercise, and I often treat depression further with hypnotherapy.

Do you treat panic attacks?

I treat panic attacks with a combination of psychoeducation, cognitive behaviour therapy, EMDR and hypnotherapy. I have also developed a paradoxical intervention which can block panic symptoms.

Do you do stress and anxiety management?

Yes, I do mindfulness training, relaxation training and stress management using a variety of cognitive behavioural techniques. I also use visualisation training to help learn new techniques to stay grounded, or to manage emotions better, using affect management skills training. Hypnotherapy can also further help to reduce stress.

Are you registered, and do you have specialist post-graduate clinical psychology training?

Yes. I am a registered psychologist and I am also a clinical psychologist. I have been a member of the Clinical Board and the Clinical College of the Australian Psychological Society for over thirty years.
