What is gum disease?

Advanced gum disease has been linked to other serious health concerns such as heart attacks, strokes, diabetes, bronchitis and pre-term births. Gum disease is usually slow progressing and painless. In fact, many patients may not realise they have gum disease until the gum disease is in the advanced stages. Some common signs of gum disease include bleeding gums, red, swollen gums, bad breath, sore gums, loose teeth and yellow, brown or black deposits around the gum line.

How much does it cost for a routine check-up & clean?

Approximately $220 (without health insurance) for a 30 minute appointment. This includes an initial examination 2 x-rays and an initial cleaning and developing a treatment plan. In some cases further x-rays and tests may be required to allow a proper diagnosis, these will incur additional costs. Rebates for dental treatment do vary between private health funds (anywhere between 30-100%).

Can you help my bad breath?

Bad breath can have a number of causes but usually it is caused by the teeth, gums or tongue. Our dentists can examine your teeth and mouth to determine if this is the cause of you bad breath. We can also assist you with techniques for cleaning your mouth properly & have a range of products which can assist in this. In rare cases bad breath can be caused by sinus or stomach problems, if we feel this is the cause of you bad breath we will refer you to a medical practitioner.

Do you see dental emergencies?

Dental Emergencies are seen that day. If you suffer from toothache, broken teeth, swelling, wisdom teeth problems and any other dental emergency, the experienced dentists at Renner Dental can help. We are open 5 days a week, 8am - 5pm to treat all dental emergencies that day. Call 07 4662 5290 to organise an appointment. We provide an after hours service for urgent dental emergencies (minimum call out fee applies).

How often should I have a check-up & clean?

Generally every 12 months for the average person as calculus/tartar builds up relatively quickly and tooth decay can progress significantly. Those with gum disease may require 3 monthly cleaning or even more frequent.

How long before I can get an appointment? and how can I get a same day dental appointment?

Priority is given to seeing patients in pain on the same day or next business day after they phone. If you phone between 8.00AM and 5.00PM you will almost certainly get an appointment the same day, and most patients will get an appointment time that best suits their schedule within the next seven days. If you call after hours the phone switches through to our recorded message which will have the contact details of the on call dentist.

What is QIP Accreditation?

The accreditation of private dental practices’ is based on the integration of a set of National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards into everyday practice culture and patient safety. These standards harmonise regulatory requirements passed down by both Federal and State governments, with highlights being the demonstration of clear and evidence based patient benefits when visiting an accredited practice.

Who are the dentists?

We have two dentists providing dental care. Paul and Kath between them they have over 40 years of experience. Both were, trained and qualified at University of QLD. Both our dentists are registered with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Authority (AHPRA) and are Members of good standing with the Australian Dental Association. Paul is also a fellow of the International College of Dentists.

I don't feel like I have any problems, do I really need to check my teeth that regularly?

Yes and no. It is recommended to check and clean teeth every 12 months but it is not essential, much like servicing your car. We aim to prevent dental disease through regular visits and inform the patient of potential problems. If problems are not detected early and left unattended then sensitivity, toothaches, fractures, and infections can occur without much prior warning.

Do you do dental implants to replace missing teeth?

Yes, we has over twenty years of experience in placing and restoring dental implants. Whether it be replacing one, several or all you teeth we can usually carry out the whole treatment. Paul has been trained both here in Australia and overseas in the placement and restoring implants and has written a number of articles on the subject. Not all missing teeth can be replaced with implants but where they can be used they provide a predictable, aesthetic and functional replacement for natural teeth.
