Your Trusted Engineered Timber Partner in NSW Our Journey: A Legacy of Excellence Belmont Timber NSW's story spans seven remarkable decades, marked by dedication, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to serving the building industry. Today, we proudly stand as a symbol of quality and reliability in engineered timber solutions, but our journey began with humble origins. The Visionaries Behind Belmont Timber NSW At the helm of our company is our Managing Director Gary Walker. Gary's active involvement and strategic leadership, alongside a seasoned management team, have played an integral role in shaping our success story. Our founder, John Walker's journey within the housing industry is nothing short of remarkable. His membership with the Housing Industry of Australia (HIA) dates back to 1965 when his contributions were so significant that he was honoured as a Life Member in 1984. Furthermore, his unwavering dedication was recognised with an Order of Australia (OAM) in 1996, underscoring his exceptional service to the industry. Gary Walker, our Managing Director, holds a Bachelor of Business from The NSW Institute of Technology, awarded in 1977. Inception and Growth The Belmont Timber NSW journey began in 1951 when John Walker and his partner took over a small case workshop on Belmont Street in Alexandria. In those early days, Belmont Timber NSW primarily focused on assembling timber crates for packaging, a necessity before modern packaging methods. Wooden crates were in high demand, with bottled beer and soft drinks delivered in these sturdy containers. Timber for these crates was sourced from sawmills on the Central Coast of New South Wales. In 1954, a pivotal moment came when a builder with a contract to construct 10 houses for the Housing Commission of NSW approached us. This marked the beginning of our journey as a prominent supplier of construction timber for the Housing Commission across New South Wales. In 1956, Belmont Timber NSW relocated to Fairfield Street, Fairfield, NSW, and ventured into supplying scantling timber to the general public. The business initially imported hardwood from the NSW North Coast, which was in high demand for fencing and flooring. Belmont Timber NSW's evolution continued as we ventured into the supply of "ready-cut" timber frames for the many builders engaged in constructing homes for the Housing Commission. While "ready-cut" timber frames were initially crafted from hardwood, the industry transitioned to softwood, specifically radiata pine, for its remarkable versatility and performance. In 1980, a significant expansion phase led to the establishment of new offices, and we moved to our present location at 75 Lisbon Street, Fairfield. Belmont Timber NSW's core business was further refined to focus on fabricating engineered frames and trusses. In 1981, we proudly became a licensed 'Gang-Nail Building System' fabricator, a name that has since transformed into 'Mitek Australia Ltd.' Most dwellings are constructed today using assembled frames, trusses, and other fabricated components. Belmont Timber NSW has remained at the forefront of this industry, adapting to meet our valued customers' changing needs and demands while never forgetting our roots in quality and dedication.
