Professor Luke Hourigan is an Interventional Gastroenterologist with a private practice based at Greenslopes Private Hospital, Brisbane. He is also the Clinical Director of Endoscopy at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine (University of Queensland). He completed advanced training in Gastroenterology at the Mater Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane. He completed postgraduate training in Interventional Endoscopy at Westmead Hospital, Sydney and St Michael's Hospital, Toronto, Canada.

Dr Hourigan is a highly experienced interventional endoscopist. He supervises gastrointestinal endoscopic training and is involved in endoscopic research. He has been an invited speaker and proceduralist at national and international meetings. He has been an active member of GESA (Gastroenterological Society of Australia)including several terms as a committee member of AGEA (Australian Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Association), now known as the Endoscopy Faculty Executive Committee. He is a past president of the Gastroenterological Society of Queensland. He was part of the Cancer Council Australia working party which developed clinical guidelines for the management of Barrett's oesophagus.

Dr Hourigan has significant experience in upper endoscopy and colonoscopy. This includes the management of Barrett’s dysplasia, early gastrointestinal cancer and large colonic polypectomy. He has expertise in ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound. He is also a national expert in the endoscopic management of achalasia. He is one of the most experienced practitioners of per oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) in Australia.
