Clinical Pilates Since 1988
- General Info
DMA Clinical Pilates is used in leading clinics, hospitals and National Institutes of Sports throughout the world.
DMA introduced Clinical Pilates in Australia in 1988 to meet the growing “Exercise as Medicine” recommendation. Our approach has been the subject of independent research at master’s, doctorate and PhD levels, and is the only Pilates method to be scrutinised and found effective at these academic standards.
Director and Physiotherapist Craig Phillips (founder of Clinical Pilates TM 1988) combined his knowledge as a former professional dancer with the Australian Ballet to study extensively in the USA with many of the Pilates masters and their contemporaries. He has gone on to develop and research Clinical Pilates as an exercise based treatment process, managing the problems that underlie injuries.
Craig was awarded a dancer retraining grant from the Australia Council, followed by a prestigious Special Projects grant to investigate the newly emerging links between Sports Medicine and Performing Arts Medicine. The original clinic was known as Dance Medicine Australia and located within one of Melbourne’s major Sports Medicine Centres in Prahran.
At DMA Clinical Pilates and Physiotherapy, all clients receive only the very best in physiotherapy and Clinical Pilates treatment, along with additional services. Offering the most relevant advice and treatment, informed by the latest research, evidence and methods, our clinicians strive to deliver the best possible treatment outcomes and effective long term solutions for every individual.
