How long do I have to wait to get an appointment at Mount Barker Dental Centre?

At Mount Barker Dental Centre our aim is to see our patients when they want to be seen. For all appointments our reception team works with you to find a day and a time that best meets your needs. Any dental emergencies are seen on the day (see below).

How do I know that your fees are fair and reasonable?

At Mount Barker Dental Centre, we are committed to charging a fair price for the services we provide. Our reception staff will tell you the cost of an initial check-up and, if you need further treatment, your dentist will prepare a treatment plan for you and explain the costs of this treatment.

What happens if I experience a dental emergency?

Each day we reserve a number of appointments for emergency care. During normal consulting hours please phone 8391 1655 and explain your problem to our reception team. After hours, please phone our after-hours emergency hotline (0412 166 874). We are one of the very few dental practices in the Adelaide Hills offering an after-hours emergency service.

Mount Barker Dental Centre has been providing high quality affordable dental care since 1997. Our team includes both dentists, Chris Thorne, Hannah Korhonen-Bannister, Monica Biondo and Anthony Ma, and oral health therapists, Edwina Williams, Bianca Stott and Deanna Efstathiadis, who are committed to maintaining every aspect of your oral health.

How often should I visit a dentist?

Some dentists recommend a check-up every 6 months. However, current research suggests that the frequency of check-ups should be based on a review of a patient’s risks, including their medical and dental history, oral hygiene, dietary habits and so on. While many patients may opt for a 6 monthly clean and scale, not all need a check-up every 6 months.

How does the government scheme supporting dental care for kids work?

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a dental benefits program for eligible children aged 2-17 years that provides up to $1000 in benefits over a two-year period for basic dental services. I have heard that you have a special focus on kids. What does this mean?

We have set up the Happy Chomper Kids’ Club to help kids overcome their fear of the dentist and to encourage them to look after their teeth (as well as to support parents in achieving these outcomes). How do I pay for dental treatment?

We require payment in full on the day of your treatment and accept cash, credit and debit cards, and personal cheques. Any dental benefits from your health fund will be processed immediately and your account will be reduced accordingly. We also accept all current government dental schemes. (If you are concerned about your ability to pay, especially where your treatment plan requires services over an extended period, please talk to us about a payment plan.)

Do you offer appointments outside of normal working hours?

Yes, we offer evening and Saturday sessions to make it easier for patients whose time is constrained by employment, family or other commitments.

Does your team include a hygienist?

Yes, while our dentists can clean and scale your teeth, our oral health therapists have been trained specifically and are the real experts in this area.
