What is the difference between a medical and surgical termination?
A medical termination is conducted by combining two prescribed medications which makes the patient expel the pregnancy. A miscarriage will likely be experienced within 12 hours of the second medication. A surgical termination takes place under anesthetic in theatre. You will need to visit the clinic for a total of 4 hours and you need an escort to drive you home.
How long does an IUD last?
Both the hormonal and non-hormonal devices are approved for up to five years continuous use. Both types are over 99% effective at preventing pregnancy, and can be removed at any time.
What assistance is offered for unplanned pregnancies?
EastCoast Women’s Centre assists with unplanned pregnancy assessments, as well as medical and surgical terminations.
How often should you have a skin check?
The Cancer Council recommends that all adults check their skin every 3 months. For those at risk of skin cancer, we recommend visiting a trained doctor for an examination at least once a year. If you notice a difference or abnormality in your skin visit your doctor as soon as possible.
How often should you have a cervical screening test?
The Cervical Screening Test should be taken every 5 years. While the procedure will feel the same, medical and scientific evidence has shown that the new screening test is more effective than having a Pap test every 2 years. If you’re not sure when you should have a Cervical Screen Test, contact our team.
