The new Department for Education, Children and Young People was established on 1 October 2022. Our Department is responsible for Child Safety, Youth Justice, Public Education, Out of Home Care, Libraries and Child and Family Learning Centres. We do this through a range of services outlined below. The Department reports to the Tasmanian Minister for Education, Children and Youth. The Tasmanian Government School SystemPre-Kindergarten Programs Launching into Learning Child and Family Learning Centres Working Together Primary School Kindergarten (pre-schooling) Prep (first year of full time school) Years 1 to 6 Secondary School – Years 7 to 12 District Schools – Kindergarten to Year 12 Colleges – Years 11 and 12 Trade Training Centres and Trade Skills Centres Support Schools and Early Childhood Intervention Services The Tasmanian eSchool: provides online education services for students who are unable to physically attend school supervises Virtual Learning Tasmania (VLT) Years 11 and 12. Government Education and Training International (GETI) broker education services for international students looking to study in Tasmania and provides a diverse range of support services for international students while studying here.Library and Archive Services Libraries Tasmania delivers Tasmania’s statewide library and archive service.Libraries Tasmania supports access to library services, research and information, adult literacy support, community learning, online access, and archive and heritage services. Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office (TAHO) is the lead recordkeeping authority in the Tasmanian Government and is responsible for the provision of recordkeeping policies and standards.Children, Youth and Families We deliver state wide policy, programs and services tosupport and enhance the safety and wellbeing of Tasmanian children, youngpeople, families, carers and our staff.
