How often should I get my eyes checked?
Many children require annual eye examinations. Adults should have their eyes checked at least every 2 years - more frequently if there are health issues such as Diabetes. Your optometrist will advise you... feel free to phone to make an appointment.
Will wearing spectacles or contact lenses stop my eyes getting worse or make them weaker?
No, most changes your eyes undergo are pre-programmed before you are born or related to hazards such as UV light exposure or smoking or trauma. Your glasses or contacts merely correct the focusing error as it was on the day you had your eyes checked. If your eyes change, your spectacle or contact lens script may need to be updated.
If my vision is good and my eyes are not sore or painful, why would I get my eyes checked?
Unfortunately many eye diseases, such as Glaucoma, Cataracts, Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Retinopathy, may not cause significant blur, discomfort or redness - at least in the early stages when treatments are most effective.
