Why do people need orthodontic treatment?

The most common reasons for people needing orthodontic treatment are concerns such as misaligned jaws or teeth - such as an overbite, underbite or open bite - crowded, crooked or protruding teeth and large gaps between the teeth.

What is the best age for a child to first see an orthodontist?

We regard eight years onwards as the ideal age to first see the patient because at this age, we can best judge their future facial development. If treatment is not appropriate at the time, we can review the patient at six or twelve-month intervals until he or she has reached the most suitable stage of development for treatment. We do not charge for follow-up reviews.

Do I need to see my dentist during orthodontic treatment?

Yes, during orthodontic treatment, it is important that you see your dentist regularly for a check-up and preventative care, such as removing plaque before it causes tooth decay or gum problems.
