Shoal Bay Resort & Spa

I recently stayed at Shoal Bay Resort and Spa and am extremely upset with my experience there.

Ibooked room with a King size bed, when I arrived my room had a queen size bed. Fair enough I thought. Unfortunately the room I had been assigned (B506) had a strong fish smell as well, clearly someone had not cleaned the room adequately. Simply put, the room was rank. I approached reception and told them it was simply not acceptable, I needed a new room.

I was then moved to the room directly above the Nightclub, which played loud music till midnight then had customers on the street for the next hour and a bit.

I thought Christmas Day itself would be quiet at the club so I suggested to reception that we stay in the room, I was told this was not an option and we were moved back into our original rank fish smelling room.

Around 4.30pm the electricity went out. Around 8.30pm the problem still existed. I needed to use the bathroom, but frankly found it disturbing to be in total darkness, so I decided to see reception about some candles or a torch.

As the lift wasn't working due to the power out I had no choice but to use the fire escape stairs. which were totally black due to no emergency lighting provided and/or not working.

I asked for candles or a torch was was told there were none, but I was 'welcomed to sit in the foyer'. Considering my previous 24 hours. I decided I had no other reasonable choice but to check out and drive home.

I asked for a refund and was informed that the Duty Manager was the only people authorised to provide refunds, however when I (and many others) approached the Duty Manager we told that nobody would be receiving a refund because neither he nor anyone else on the premises was authorised to give refunds. I checked out, moving the bags down the Fire Escape stairwell by mobile phone light,as there were still no fixed lights working.

I never received a full or partial refund or even an apology for the worst getaway ever!
