      There are basically 3 types of cultured pearls, the first of these are the South Sea pearls (which include the white hues from Broome-Australia, dark-black from Tahiti and the gold colours from Philippines and Indonesia). The second types are the traditionally Japanese farmed 'Akoya' pearls. The third types are the freshwater pearls mainly cultivated in China.
