- General Info
Many people struggle with feelings of depression or anxiety or have relationship difficulties. There may be times when parenting is difficult or you are feeling stressed about work. You may feel that issues from your past are getting in the way. We are all confronted by difficult situations and outside support can help provide a new perspective.
We enjoy working with many different clients, both children, teens and adults, as well as individuals and couples or families. My goal is to help you achieve the changes that are the most meaningful to you in the quickest way possible, while respecting who you are. By developing a strong therapeutic relationship that is warm, genuine and trustworthy, we can work together to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours to move towards change.
We are all confronted by difficult situations and outside support can help provide a new perspective. Seeing a professional gives you the chance to sit in a relaxed and therapeutic environment and talk about things without fear of being judged.
Counselling is not something that is done 'to' you. It is an active process based in a respectful relationship that focuses on enhancing your wellbeing. We will explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and I will help you identify and examine unhelpful patterns so that you can gain a new perspective and move forward.

Are my sessions confidential?
Anything that is discussed in counselling is confidential, and all records kept are confidential with several exceptions: if subpoenaed by a Court as part of a Family Report assessment or any other Court ordered intervention (such as Supervised changeover for children, or Supervised Contact for children) if there is concern that not disclosing information would place you or others at risk of harm if you have provided consent to release the information
What do I need to know about attending the first session?
Before your first appointment I will send/e-mail you an intake form to complete, so that we can maximise our time together. During the first session, we will discuss the process of therapy and gather a full assessment of the issues that you want to work on in therapy. We will talk about the limits of confidentiality and what this means for your therapy
How long does each session last?
Each counselling session lasts for 50 minutes. Following the initial consultation, if any assessments are needed, an appropriate block of time will be allowed. For example, it may take several hours to complete some assessments such as intelligence testing.
What happens for a Family Report assessment?
For Family Report assessments, sessions may last for one or two hours, depending on which family member is being seen. Interviews for parents are allocated a minimum of two hours, children a minimum of one hour, and family observation sessions with children and parents are allocated an hour. If extended family members are involved in the assessment they will also be asked to attend interviews.
Do I need a referral?
No, you do not need a referral to attend a psychologist. However, if you are referred by a GP, Psychiatrist or Paediatrician, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate under the Better Access to Mental Health Care scheme. If you are eligible, you may receive up to 10 individual sessions in a calendar year up to 10 group therapy sessions in a calendar year where this is available and is considered appropriate by your referring doctor and the psychologist
