General Info

The physiotherapists at Northside Sports Injury Centre offer a variety of skills to assist you in your rehabilitation.

Northside Sports Injury Centre is a physiotherapy clinic established way back in the 80’s. Current principal physiotherapist Jane Christinson has been with the clinic since 1994 and has been running things since 1998. With a current team of six physiotherapists and a massage therapist, we offer a wide range of physiotherapy services and have plenty of experience to offer. We can help with: neck pain, back pain, headaches, nerve pain, sports injuries, arthritis, sprains strains and tears, core stability and biomechanical assessment, injury prevention, post operative physiotherapy, women’s health, incontinence, pregnancy related back pain, chronic pain, shoulder injuries, jaw (tmj) pain.

Northside sports injury centre has been offering quality physiotherapy to the area for decades and after a recent and long awaited expansion, now has plentiful private cubicles, a separate Pilates exercise area and space for classes. We have a lively and spirited group of 6 physiotherapists from varying backgrounds including remedial massage, exercise physiology and who are largely from avid sporting backgrounds. We are runners, swimmers, tennis players and soccer/ touch enthusiasts and we bring our knowledge and passion for sports to work every day.

Both males and females can experience pelvic floor dysfunction. It is more common in females largely due to childbirth but this is certainly not the sole cause for dysfunction. Damage to the connective tissue during pregnancy and childbirth can lead to prolapse of the uterus. Usually your obstetrician/GP will examine for this post childbirth and at pap smear reviews. If you feel discomfort or can actually see a protusion, you should see your GP first as some cases require surgery.

Muscle tears occur frequently in sports but can happen with daily activities and mishaps as well. Muscle tears are graded depending on size and impact on function. Like ligaments sprains, we divide muscle tears into 3 grades, 1 is minor and minimal dysfunction will be present, grade 2’s can be quite painful and usually result in some degree of dysfunction, grade 3 is a rupture of the muscle and these sometimes require surgical repair. We can diagnose and grade your tear, and advise you of the timeframe that you will have to modify activity.

FAQschevron down

What will the physiotherapist do?

A detailed history of why you are there will be taken, you will have a physical examination. The physiotherapist will use this information to make a diagnosis and design a treatment program that suits you. A range of techniques may be used including manual therapy (mobilization, manipulation), massage techniques, dry needling, electrotherapy, (ultrasound etc) exercises.

Will it hurt?

Cue for evil laugh….Usually no, it does not have to hurt. Despite our bad reputation for inflicting pain and enjoying it, our aim is to examine you as painlessly as possible and to treat as comfortably as possible. There are some instances for example, deep tissue or scar massage/mobilization that do hurt to varying degrees BUT if something is likely to hurt, your physio will tell you in advance. You also should ALWAYS speak up of something is painful.

Do I need to bring anything?

If you have any relevant x-rays, scans or other reports, it would be beneficial to bring them with you.

Do I need a Referral?

No, physiotherapists are first order practitioners so you do not need a referral. UNLESS you are claiming work cover in which case you must be referred and always covered by a medical certificate, VETERANS require a yearly medical certificate and INSURANCE claims also generally require a medical referral.

Do you have cancellation policy?

Yes we do require at least 4 hours notice if you not able to make your appointment. This enables us to use that time to treat someone else who requires it. 50% of the booked consultation fee may be charged if you fail to comply.

Do you see Workcover, Vet affairs and Insurance patients?

Yes we do.
