How often will I need to come?

At Lakeside Rooms we are committed to ensuring that the intervention provided is specifically tailored to your needs. This means that there are no hard and fast rules regarding length of treatment, and will largely be determined by the nature of the difficulty. Your practitioner will discuss the estimated length of treatment with you following your initial assessment session and review this with you regularly as treatment progresses.

Are there any Rebates available?

Cognitive and leaning assessments are not able to be claimed on Medicare or Private Health funds.

Is there car parking available?

Free parking is usually available in the open-air car park at the business complex.

What do I bring to the first appointment?

If you have a doctor's referral or any relevant paperwork please bring it with you to your first appointment. Please bring any previous reports or assessments you think might be relevant. For children attending please being any copies of school reports, other assessment reports or doctor's letters you have.

Who may request a cognitive and or learning assessment and why?

Parents, school counsellors or guidance officers, general practitioners (GPs), paediatricians and child psychiatrists commonly refer young clients to child psychologists for a cognitive or learning assessment if the child is experiencing learning problems at school, to ascertain whether they have any learning problems that may be causative or contributing to a clinical presentation and to aid in accurate clinical formulation and treatment planning.

What are the costs?

The costs of the assessment depend on the time taken to complete the full assessment, report and feedback session and the hourly rate of the psychologist you are consulting. The standard number of hours without the initial interview and school visit is approximately 6 hours, however in complex cases when more assessments are needed and the initial interview and a school visit are necessary then it may take up to 10 hours of the psychologist’s time that you will be charged.

Can I claim rebates through my private health insurance?

Your private health insurance may cover some psychological or speech therapy services. Please contact your health insurer for further information. You cannot claim both a Medicare rebate and a private health rebate on the same service.
