General Info

Old But Still Good is the project of Registered Architect Ashley Menegon based in Newcastle.

Passionate about design and hands-on making, we take on creative projects of all sizes—from small DIY builds to large-scale constructions. Our focus is on sustainability and innovation, breathing new life into second-hand and reclaimed materials. Whether it's furniture, decor, or functional art, we believe in thoughtful craftsmanship, reducing waste, and turning old materials into something beautiful and useful.

20 years of design and drafting experience working on alterations and new homes. Please get in touch for a free initial chat and consult to see if we would be a good match for your project. This is offered as a pragmatic and cost-effective architectural approval service unless further design and documentation services are required. This can also include collaboration with regards to sourcing second hand materials or the crafting of unique windows, doors, fixtures and furniture.

Finished projects include several tiny houses on wheels, cabins, fences, shade structures, vegetable stalls, children’s mud kitchens and even a house made out of a cupboard! Several of these projects have been built in association with community and charity organisations in Sydney and Newcastle including the Bower Reuse and Repair Centre and Pocket City Farms. These have been built outside any requirements for approvals. If you need something unique that exists outside of any particular fad or trend, together we can find some materials to work with and see how they lead towards something beautiful.

Ashley spent years repairing and building new furniture for Old But Still Good and The Bower Reuse and Repair Centre. Whether you want help with fixing up a wobbly chair leg or need some custom furniture designed and made from scratch, please get in touch. Two of Ashley’s tables – made from all recycled hardwood framing - were exhibited in ‘Workshop 2020’and the ‘Northern Beaches Art & Design Prize’. One of these currently lives in the workspace area of‘ Among the Trees’, a recycling wood shop in Marrickville Sydney.
