Founded in 1992, Australasian Centre of Chinese Studies (ACCS) is a unique educational initiative in Melbourne aimed at bringing Mandarin language learning to the local community. Our innovative approach employed Accelerated Learning techniques, making language acquisition faster and more effective.
Collaborating with scholars from the People's Republic of China, we have developed a specialised programme called" Chinese Using Accelerated Learning Techniques" (CUALT). Our broader goal is to make Chinese language and cultural studies accessible to the Australian community. This programme was introduced in a class attended by 29 students, which was highly successful, with students reporting that they could learn Mandarin with remarkable ease while enjoying the process.
This positive response led to the establishment of the Australasian Centre of Chinese Studies (ACCS), which has since become a key institution in teaching Chinese language and culture in Melbourne. Over the years, ACCS has educated thousands of students in both Australia and England, helping individuals from diverse backgrounds gain proficiency in Chinese Mandarin.
The Centre has also extended its services to the corporate sector, training executives from renowned companies such as Telstra, ANZ Bank, Crown Casino, and Cadbury Schweppes. Our mission is rooted in promoting teaching excellence in Chinese studies through the use of Accelerated Learning techniques. Beyond language, we aim to provide education in Chinese philosophy, history, art, and more. How long does it take to become proficient in Mandarin with ACCS?
The time frame for proficiency varies depending on the student's commitment and prior language experience, but with our Accelerated Learning techniques, students typically see faster progress than with traditional methods.
Do you need to spend more money on student books and CDs?
We are extremely well-priced (Approx. $15 per hour for adult classes). This includes student books and CDs (which you can import to your iPhone or mp3 or use as a podcast) saving you at least another $60! You can also pay your school fees using your credit card.
Does the school provide any other learning benefits?
We have a social club, regular events (eg In Tune with Chinese) and a regular newsletter. Great opportunities for social or business purposes are also available through our Facebook, Google+ and ACCS Blog. In addition, we have comprehensive e-learning tools for our students and class videos for students who have missed attending their classes in any week. Most of all, our Chinese classes are fun and interesting - we do not give tests and we do not teach from standard boring textbooks!
How much flexibility does the school offer you in terms of classes and availability?
We have concurrent classes at most levels giving you maximum flexibility in attendance. You can attend any available class each week or even repeat the same lesson if you like. We seldom cancel classes due to insufficient students. Best of all, if you need to, we allow you to defer to the following term for a nominal deferment fee. Enrolling is an easy process and you can cancel out at any time before classes begin without any penalty.
Are the classes suitable for children?
Yes, ACCS offers Mandarin language programmes for students of all ages, including children, with courses designed to be engaging and suitable for younger learners.

Yes, ACCS offers both in-person and online classes, allowing students to learn from anywhere in Australia or even globally.
