West Gippsland Hospital

First of all, this is the second time at this hospital I have very clearly heard staff members discussing private patient matters very loudly, including their own personal, and derogatory opinions about them. I noticed this especially from a doctor who appeared to be in charge of the ED at the time (middle-aged British women with glasses). This is disgusting.

Now onto myself, despite telling the nurse triaging me I have a nerve right under the vein in my left arm she needed to be careful of, she cannulised me without any care whatsoever. I had shooting pains all up and down my arm. Once the cannula was eventually removed a squirt of blood shot out (obviously inserted completely incorrectly), to which the nurse removing it looked shocked. I am now left with a bruise under the site and itching and tingling all up and down my arm.

On top of this, the nurse who triaged me and did this terrible job seemed to find my emotional state very amusing. After having been through the wars and ending up in ED you’d think you could expect a bit of empathy, or maybe some compassion. Wrong.

Your patients are coming to you for care and I think that has been forgotten.

Ladies at desk very nice, got in there and got in earlier than appointment time, Dr was very helpful, explained everything properly, nice clean area and rooms.

I have only ever received efficient and kind treatment here from the hard-working nurses and ancillary staff, who make the best of working in an old facility.

The nursing staff are generally unprofessional. They talk about other clients in a derogatory manner, they are behind in their nursing practice and knowledge of medications. I had tinwait three days to have a shower. The bathroom was being used as a store room fir commodes, chairs , Iv poles and crutches. See attached photo.
