Melbourne Colour Painting P/L

Totally disappointed this painter did not complete his job. Used equipment that broke my driveway tiles. I had to call him after three weeks to see when he was going to complete the inside of my house only to be told he had to other jobs. After paying him significant money. The good news is i found a far superior painter wish i could have used someone else for external paint job.

I have engaged the services of Tahir and his team several times and always find the job to be well done, with excellent communication, reliability and timeliness.

Melbourne Colour Painting painted my brand new house when I built it as an owner builder. I was so happy with the workmanship that's why I also asked them to do some defects work in my house before selling it years later. They did a great job. I was happy, the buyer was happy.

Melbourne Colour Painting did a very satisfying job at my renovated house. Their price was affordable and the quality of the workmanship was not compromised. We were planning to replace some part of the ceilings and walls due to damages and imperfections but the crew patched it up so we did not have to replace them. We had same problem with some of the doors. We replaced the doors with major damages and fortunately the painters saved the other doors with minor damages by patching up and sanding down. They used plasterer's sanding machine for smoothing up some walls even some ceilings. They fixed all cracks and dints by using builder's bug, wood filler, paintable silicone and plaster top coat. Each day they arrived at the time they advised us and cleaned up all the rubbish before leaving. They undercoated all ceilings and walls, also used oil based undercoat for woodworks such as doors, trims, jambs and architraves. They kept floor clean by using drop sheets, even they masked the surfaces such as kitchen cabinets to protect from paint and dust. Their paint choice and colour consultancy eased our burden with the renovations and the colour and brand they suggested us made us satisfied with their fantastic painting job.

We hired the guys at Melbourne Colour Paint Pty Ltd to repaint the facade of our two story home. The company consists of two people, the Managing Director(MD) and his employee (the guys), both of whom are on the tools. The MD quoted the job and was the main point of contact.



Our job was not large (facade works) but did include 11 timber windows and 5 small feature/corner posts. The timbers on the balcony needed a bit of extra work. 



We provided all job details and paint specs to the guys upfront. Prior to commencing the job the guys confirmed our paint choices and prices.



The guys turned up on time (‪8am‬) on day one but had to leave site to buy the paint. Soon after we got a call from the MD, he told us we only needed two coats and didn’t need a primer (quote was a 3 coats system including primer). Due to the “condition” of the render we kept the primer. The guys returned ‪at about 12:30‬, set up a small scaffold and left for the day. 



The next day they started work around the garage. The primer coat went down well and the membrane paint was painted over those walls in the following few days. 



The membrane product has instructions about maintaining a wet edge to eliminate picture framing (AS/NZS 2311 - defect). The membrane also needs to be evenly applied with a deep nape roller to prevent obvious roller marks (AS/NZS 2311 - defect) and to ensure even coverage. 



Melbourne Colour Paint PL left obvious roller marks and picture framing effects on the walls. Also the primer is visible through the membrane due to insufficient application. They said they’d fix these problems but never did. 



The eaves were painted quite well however the guys overpainted onto the fascia and other trims.They said they’d fix it but they never fixed it. 



With regard to the timber posts and windows, from the day we lodged the job in Yellow Quotes we had specified the stain (brand/type/colour). However part way through the job Melbourne Colour Painting PL tried to talk us out of using the stain. The MD asked if he could use the render membrane paint the timbers.



The suggestion was made after the MD advised he had sanded and then stained the two balcony feature posts with 3 coats of stain. The finished job was patchy and uneven and timber cracks and splits were clearly visible (photo attached).  



“Bare or starved painted areas, colour variations, and visible surface cracks are defects” in accordance with AS/NZS 2311.



The MD told us that there was nothing he could do to fix the timber and he needed to paint the timbers with the render membrane. 



We wanted to preserve the colour and the grain of the timber so at our cost we purchased a sander, paint and putty. We patched the posts, sanded them and painted them with 1 coat of stain to see if the posts could be saved or if we should just get them painted over. Refer to attached picture for finished result with 1 coat of stain. We asked the guys to persist with the stain.



Up to this point Melbourne Colour Paint PL had complained about the job the builder of our house had done and how it made their job more difficult. We offered to pay the guys more to account for any unforeseen problems found. We repeated this offer after the post matter. 



After 4 days on site, very little work had been completed and 9 of the windows hadn’t even been sanded. We asked for a progress report and the Managing Director advised us that he had a job next week. It was with a builder. He advised he would have to leave our job next week and come back in the afternoons when he could and to finish our job in pieces.



On Day 5 the MD got his offsider to move onto two downstairs windows. The offsider sanded and then stained the windows with 1 coat. However the MD asked the offsider to go to the next job and the guy rushed his work leaving stain runs down the sills and into the glass. He fixed it as best he could when he came back.
