Frustrated Student

12/07/2023

A horror story of bug bites, fleas and unwanted surprises.

I cannot express the sheer horror and disgust I experienced during my stay at this so-called "accommodation." Within a day of moving in, I discovered my legs and ankles covered in bites. Mosquitoes, I thought at first, but my blissful ignorance was shattered when I woke up from a nap to find fleas infesting my body. Yes, you heard that right – fleas!

To make matters worse, the room resembled a canine fur haven, and I don't even own a dog. It was like the previous tenant's furry friend had thrown a fur party, leaving me to wade through the mess every time I moved. As if that weren't enough, while unpacking, I stumbled upon credit cards and personal items that belonged to someone else entirely. Cleaned properly? Forget about it – the room looked like it hadn't seen a vacuum in centuries.

The stench in the air was a constant assault on my senses. I never felt safe in that environment. It's a complete disgrace that they charge anything at all for this hellhole, even if the price is dirt cheap. You might as well hand over your money willingly to a thief because that's how I felt – robbed and violated.

After three agonizing weeks of attempting to find alternative accommodations in Armidale, I threw in the towel and opted for online classes. This experience has tainted my perception of Armidale, and I have no desire to set foot in that place again. Save yourself the trauma and steer clear of this accommodation nightmare at all costs!

Disgusting. Do not stay here.

I recently stayed at Smith House in Armidale and it was the worst experience of my life. I wish I had read the other reviews here before staying. I hadn’t read anything realistic about it prior to going and it was recommended to me by the Women’s Shelter in Armidale. I opted to live in my car for the last two nights of staying in Armidale. I would like my money back after staying there.

You cannot cook here because of the fire risk, the smell is disgusting, the bathrooms and toilets are disgusting and the men here were creepy and harassing me. As a woman I felt unsafe. I had a homeless man on drugs aggressively approach me whilst I was getting in my car outside Smith House. It felt threatening enough to almost make me call the police. He was waiting for me at the back paddock because he had an issue with where I had parked. He ran over to confront me. Another guy staying here kept following me every time I went to the park across the road and kept touching me when I didn’t want to be touched. He kept harassing me when I was trying to be alone and have some time to myself. The kitchens are disgusting and barely usable, my kettle stopped working and you can’t cook in the rooms even in the microwave due to risk. There are no towels and the lights barely work. I struggled to be able to shower because of no lighting. This place needs to demolished.

This was the dirtiest, creepiest place I have ever had to stay in. My fridge didn't work, most of the lights in the builing needed replacing. The shower looked like something from eastern Europe. I get the feeling that this place is also being used as a DOH refuge. I had to put my bed up against the door in order to feel safe. The kitchens were filthy and didn't have and basic things like, chopping boards, crockery & cutlery etc.Even if you are a struggling student like myself, you do not need to subject yourself to this! Unless you want to re-create the norman bates psycho feel. I would seriously advise against even walking past this place....Cross over & keep on walking!
