The Age newspaper is a much more analytic and high brow and left wing paper than its rival the Herald Sun (also known as the Hun). It is owned by the Fairfax group. It recently made the paper smaller and got rid a lot of journalists but that doesnt seem to have affected the quality greatly. It is certainly easier to read on the train now. It is still quite strong in real estate. The Sun Herald is better for sport. I like it more the long pieces and the investigative pieces. The Saturday edition is still printed in the older large format and I mostly read that for the travel section. I guess the print edition will go eventually but it wont be the same on Saturday mornings in the caf without the Age.
