I have a Master Degree in Interpreting and Translation, yet, NAATI made it difficult to get an interpreting license. The way the speakers or role-players used in delivering the passage is too fast and long if compared with the training method of other institutes. Even though if candidates are allowed to ask for repetition, one can feel it is rather tricky especially if the repetition done more than once, candidates will lose marks and time will be over if not managed properly. Moreover, the test fees are not cheap.
Besides, there is some kind of discrimination when it comes to Arabic language especially if the candidates are not of Lebanese background. They are considered as the best if compared to others. The Syrian interpreters comes Second in ranking. Even if someone needs to go to a Medical Centre or Hospital, no matter how good he or she is in English, an interpreter must be present since they are not as fast as they are in rendering the meaning from Arabic into English or vice versa.
