Did a poor job causing ongoing long term financial and emotional exhaustion

When building an extension to our house, Dunstan Construction did not follow regularions: they did not put supports beneath the sewerage pipe under the back veranda.

As a result, the pipe sagged, causing a blockage and causing dirty green-brown water with flakes of p o o p to flood multiple rooms of the house, destroying a lot of property and costing several hundred dollars upfront.

But the plumber said that the fix was only temporary, and this will happen again. To permanently fix the problem, the entire veranda must be torn up, supports installed under the pipe, then the veranda rebuilt again, costing a few thousand dollars (which we don't have).

When building our water heater, Dunstan Construction also botched that horribly as well. The plumber was so amazed by how bizarre our water heater was and how nonconformant to regulations that he took photos to show his plumber friends: he'd never seen anything that bad.

Recently, the water heater has started letting out a bone-chilling squealing howl every time anyone in the house uses hot OR cold water. We have to listen to these wailing banshee sounds dozens of times every day. Because it's New Year holidays, it'll be many days before a plumber can get here to fix it, and it'll cost us hundreds more dollars.

We're also scared for our safety. What if the thing explodes while we're in the backyard, and shreds us with shrapnel and hot water? I mean it's clear that modern standards are only a recommendation to Dunstan Construction, so nothing's out of the question.

There have been several more minor failures with these guys too:

* A tap not installed properly that started fountaining water every time it was turned on and had to be replaced by the plumber. (They said it was the cheapest model of tap that a builder could possibly have used.)

* A shower head not installed properly that started falling awkwardly over sideways whenever moved off-centre, and had to be replaced by the plumber.

* Electric wires not installed properly causing erratic behaviour and intermittent failure of outdoor lights, and sporadic daily flickering of indoor lights.

* A wall that we were repeatedly promised would be soundproof, but it allows more sound through than regular walls. (Very important considering I'm very autistic and a soundproof wall between me and the rest of the family would have greatly increased my quality of life.)

* Cutting down part of a beloved family tree because they thought they had to, only to say "whoops, we didnt actually have to build there after all": the tree later developed a fatal wood worm infection, maybe thanks to the gaping open wounds.

Dunstan Construction's mistakes have cost us several thousand dollars, and endless stress as we move from one plumbing disaster to the next. Whether it's pipes squealing and wailing every day, or rotten-egg-gas scented p o o p water destroying our furniture, Dunstan Construction's corner-cutting is the gift that keeps on giving. No doubt it will continue to deplete and exhaust my family for many years to come.
