Far North Fencing

I worked briefly with this business as a new general labourer. From the outset, I was transparent about being new to the industry, holding a current White Card, and working within my level of skill while prioritising safety procedures.



On my third day, I was spoken to in an aggressive manner, including raised voice and profanity directed at me regarding the pace of my work. As someone new and still developing efficiency, I was intentionally working carefully to complete tasks safely rather than rushing. During the interaction, the intensity of the communication led me to physically step back to create space.



The escalation was sudden and intense. I genuinely felt unsafe during the interaction. A workplace should never reach a point where someone feels physically unsafe — especially over something as basic as work pace on a third day.



I recognise that he, too, once had to learn these skills, and like me, was new to the work at some point. I did not feel the situation was handled constructively or professionally.



In earlier conversations, the owner spoke critically about previous workers and acknowledged using similar strong language in the past. That context, combined with my own experience, contributed to my decision not to continue. I had also agreed in good faith that day to extend my shift to assist with workload demands.



After reflecting on the overall communication style and approach to safety, I decided the environment was not the right fit for me.

Michael and his staff did a great fencing job at our house. Removed the old fence put a new fence in (with 5 inch posts and 38mm stringers) and hardly disturbed the vegetation. Very well done.
