This is the place to come for both tourists and locals alike. Because I dont live nearby the only time I ever really come here is when acting as tour guide for visiting friends.

Its great for tourists here as theres plenty of places to buy souvenirs from. But be assured, this is very much a working market for the locals as well. They have a massive number of clothing and other miscellaneous stalls. But perhaps the best bit is their very large range of fresh produce, meats and seafood.

Queen Vic Market is also great in the evenings over summer as each week they hold an international food festival which we never fail to visit. Its lots of fun!

My favourite thing to do at the Market is get a bratwurst from the Bratwurst shop and then just sit outside and watch the mix of people. Newcomers might consider signing up for one of the inexpensive guided tours (including tastings) as the market is a bewildering place with many facets. The more west you go the cheaper the fruit gets and it has many iconic features such as the van Churros Spanish donuts. It is a bit shabby but the 700 stalls are the living heart of Melbourne (built ironically on the site of Melbournes first cemetery).

Queen Vic Markets are the most vibrant extensive markets in Melbourne with rows & rows of fruit & veg! The deli's are one of my favourite places due to the vast amount of cheese & deli meats. They have a cosmopolitan vibe particularly at the night market in summer. My wife loves the food stalls as you can eat some delicious food from all areas of the globe. A must see if you are visiting Melbourne!

The Queen Vic Markets are great for tourists and locals. The markets have a couple of different sections. One area having stalls of nic-nacs, clothes and souvenirs, another sells fruit and vegetables and the other sells meat and deli produce. Great for fresh food. The jam donuts are a market favourite too.
