What a fantastic and thorough mechanic. I have just brought a van for my son to learn to drive in (because it fits his motorbike), and left the vehicle with this mechanic for the roadworthy and went across the road to Fountaingate ( how convenient ). When I returned he went right over the car with me to show me why and what bits didn't pass the test. I got a couple of other quotes for the work and they were a little more than what Sterling had quoted so I took it back to him. I'm glad my son is driving a safe car and appreciate the prompt and meticulous work. I would recommend this mechanic if good quality work is what your after :)
Ps. The auto electrician next door fixed a little problem in the dash and don't change me a thing :)

Women & people with limited mechanical knowledge beware, & please get a 2nd and/or 3rd opinion before having Sterling at Fountain Gate Automotive work on their vehicles. I am a woman & I used to buy and strip cars for a living, so my reasoning for this advise is as follows:
1. Sterling claimed that the cluster on my daughters car needed to be repaired when in fact it was only the gear down near the gear box that needed to be replaced.
2. Both Sterling & Fountain Gate Auto Electric (located in same building as Sterling) both claimed after they supposedly tested my daughters car that it needed a new alternator. However since then we had 2 other mechanics test the same alternator & found out that the alternator is working perfectly fine.
3. Sterling told my daughter that he felt her car (which she had just received from me for her birthday) had been in a "major accident". His reasoning he said for this were: Because license plates that begin with "U" were not given out in the year her car was made. However as we all know many times license plates are turned into VicRoads when cars are sold in Victoria. This was the case with this car when it was sold in 1995. He also claimed that he believed the car was in a major accident because there was some touch up paint along the black molding on a door, which was simply that touch up paint. However when tapping on the door you can hear that there is no bondo in the door itself. In addition there is no evidence anywhere of any repair welding on the chassis, or any other major mechanical repairs that one would see if a car was in a major accident or was a repairable write off due to a "major accident."
It is therefore my opinion that Sterling was trying to scare & take advantage of myself & my daughter; thinking that neither of us had mechanical knowledge. It's for these reasons, & a couple of others, that Sterling & Fountain Gate Auto Electrical lost our business & why we decided to have the work done elsewhere.
