Did not install my CarPlay unit properly.

Overall it was a good experience, however, he did not install my CarPlay unit properly and did it in an extremely dangerous way.

I called Auto barn and they said they didn’t install the product I had bourght online and recommended Bailey Auto and accessory fitting and gave me him number.

He came out to install it the day after I called and considering it was a Sunday, I was very grateful he came on such short notice.

He charged me $200 to install it which I thought was steep considering I had already installed the reverse camera myself and connected all the wires ready to go.

He just needed to fix up the wires coming out of the car because the previous owner had messed with them so much I could no longer connect them to my new head unit. (I just bought the car)

So he took an hour to do it and told me the $200 covers any future problems I may have and he needs to come back out and fix anything which I thought was great.

It all worked great while I was sitting in my garage, however, the first time I took my car out for a drive the device started playing up. It took an extremely long time to turn on and every time I went over a bump or closed my car doors, the unit would go black and continuously flicker. I thought maybe it was just a connection issue issue and made sure my phone was connected properly but the issue keep happening. So much that it got to the point it would go black and not turn back on.

I sent a video of what was happening to Bailey and asked him his advice on what could be causing the issue and he took three days the respond and he instantly went on the defensive and said “You supplied the head unit so if it's a product issue is nothing to do with me, it’s not install an issue, I've been doing stereos for 25 years” then said “And if I come out and remove it and find it is a product issue, I will have to charge call out fee”.

I asked him what the call out fee would be and that I th ought I was covered if I needed him the come out again if I had any issues and he said “I have experienced many issues with these Android units and they are rarely ever the same problem but $120 is the call out fee that includes pulling head unit apart and diagnosing of the problem”.

I never responded because I thought this was extremely unprofessional considering he changed his mind that I was no longer covered if he need to come out and look at the head unit.

I contacted my father and he said he would have a look next time I drove the NSW to see him. We pulled out the head unit and moved some of the wires while it was turned on and it INSTANTLY turned off when moving around one of the bunch of wires. (These where the power and grounding wires)

We pulled off the tape around the adapter and it sparked and let out smoke and found out that he had connected the three wires into this adapter that was already in the car when I bought it. It was clearly melted and wasn’t suitable for anything the be put into it (I remember it was already like that when I bought the car) and he just shoved them in that and taped it without replacing it or cutting out the adapter and connecting the wires together.

My father said how dangerous that was and how it could have started a fire and how lazy Bailey was for installing it that way and was apaulled that he went on a rant about how he knew what he was doing and how experienced he was.

My father connected the wires and soldered them together.

Now the head unit turns on instantly when I turn the car on and doesn’t take 2-3 minutes and has never worked so well, because now it gets full power and I’ve never had an issues since.

(I think to myself if I had called him out, what would he have done? I think he would have said it’s a head unit issue just to get more money out of me knowing it was a wiring issue).

Overall I think Baileys auto and accessory fitting is highly not recommended and he takes shortcuts to make a quick buck.

Sure he might have
