So disapointed with our experience at De Beaurepaire Cellar Door!
We had travelled to Rylstone from Sydney to visit our friends and booked to visit with the intention of enjoying a nice afternoon wine tasting and stocking up on some french style wines for Christmas. We had our 2 young children and dogs in tow. We were half way through wine tasting when one of the owners appeared and aggressively informed us that one of the dogs had wandered into the main building, and asking why they weren't on leash.
Now, we had been there for 40 minutes being served by the tasting staff. Not once had mention anything about the dogs or request they should be put on leash. The dogs had been well behaved and had even been playing with the owner's lovely dog Sasha.
When we heard, we apologised and explained we hadn't meant for this to happen (our dog had not caused any damage), however, we continued to be lectured to like we were irresponsible children.
When we explained that how we were being spoken to was ruining our experience the owner said "you can pack up and leave!". So we did.
The other owner returned the money we had paid for the wine tasting and had the decency to offer an apology explaining that his partner "should never be front of house." We can see why. We appreciated this but feel we still have to write this review because we have never been treated like this in ANY establishment before.
It ruined what should have been a lovely day with friends and family and we will never be able to return. You can have the finest wines in Australia but if you can't be hospitable to those who visit your cellar door maybe something has gone wrong.
* Our reply from the business via google reviews was to suggest that we misinterpreted how we were spoken to, gaslighting us and embellishing their justification by including that the dog destroyed food (this was never been mentioned on the day) and threatened the safety of their grandchildren (we had a 8month baby and 2yo present).
We are all doctors working in public hospitals so don't appreciate being partronised about how to interpret their behaviour and scolding. We would not speak to patients the way the owner spoke to us. We are deeply frustrated that they have gaslit us online for our mistreatment. Maybe their time would be better spent learning how to apologise and then stop there.
