A fantastic caring service

I have been coming to this practice off and on since having my children 35 years ago. I feel it is at its caring best right now. I have been advised really well and referred to other good services ALL the time whether I needed surgery, different medication or tests to resolve issues that were unexpectedly different to what I was used to when I was younger. I also feel I can discuss anything in confidence that is worrying me. My neighbours feel the same way - very lucky considering a shortage of good, reasonably-priced GP clinics in this area - to have this as my local practice. I have complete confidence in five of the doctors I have seen here.

Dr Nigel Murray

I found out Dr Nigel Murray was found guilty of unprofessional conduct by the HCCC because he negligently gave a woman medicine that killed her without good reason

Unethical and unprofessional clinic

Very unethical and unprofessional practice. They delete their negative reviews and respond with total fakeness to the nice ones

Unethical conduct

My recent experience with the nurse on duty was DEEPLY CONFUSING AND CONCERNING, although I have always found the staff at Prahran East Medical Clinic to be welcoming and professional, particularly Dr Webb-Pullman, who has provided compassionate and attentive care. It is also lovely to engage with Winston, the therapy dog!

However, yesterday I visited the clinic to have my second Mounjaro injection administered, yet the nurse repeatedly asked me what my dosage was and how to use the Kwikpen. I attempted to encourage her to read the official instructions, as last week's nurse did, but she dismissed me, stating she had already read the online instruction, yet still proceeded to ask me questions, like why am I "taking so much" (???)...

1. It's my second week...I'm on the loading dose, the lowest dose.

2. Why ask me?...that's a question for my doctor(!!!)

When I started feeling nervous and expressed my preference to leave (and administer it myself in the comfort of my home), the nurse GESTURED TOWARDS THE DOOR and stated she would "not tolerate being spoken to like that" (!!!). I was left dazed and confused.

She then used her position as PRACTICE OWNER to exert power over me—stating that she would CANCEL MY ACCESS TO MY DOCTOR and instructed the receptionist to write notes that I am not welcome at her practice (did not even have the courtesy to tell me directly let alone stop and take hold of her anger).

Her actions are clearly out of her scope as a practicing nurse. I believe this was completely unethical. A nurse has a legal duty of care and ethical behaviour. It was not in my best interest to be continually asked about a medication administration process or to be threatened loss of access to my doctor. I had wished the nurse would just slow down and take her time, but she was rushing, despite me being the only patient in the practice at 8AM.

As a result of this experience, both my partner and I can no longer support this business. It is disappointing to part ways with doctors we trust, but we value a healthcare environment where patient well-being, respect, and ethical conduct are prioritised and promoted in their interactions with stakeholders.

Additionally, I feel deeply concerned for the welfare of both staff, other patients and the nurse herself. The nurse is clearly not managing their stress levels and taking their frustrations out on a patient. No one should feel intimidated, dismissed, or disrespected in a healthcare setting...they should feel supported and welcomed.

Facts so far...

i. I believe this behaviour speaks to a larger underlying issue or an emotional unmet need...why would someone fly into a fit of rage at 8AM?

ii. Noone has called me to explain if and why I've been 'banned' from their clinic, despite my two emails to the clinic. The whole experiencing is perplexing...was the nurse upset because I encouraged her to read the instructions after all her questions? Was the nurse offended that I was uncomfortable and wanted to leave? Why did she take anything so personally? Surely patients have the right to leave if they do not feel emotionally safe!

iii. This feels like a clear example of white privilege in action. As a BIPOC person, advocating for myself, expressing discomfort and choosing to leave, was met with vilification. I suspect the nurse felt embarrassed and, in response, used her position as the owner of the practice to assert power and punish me.

I find this deeply unethical

Prahran East Medical Centre

Prahran East Medical Centre and its doctors and staff should be avoided at all costs. Never encountered such terrible, incompetent, rude people in any healthcare environment ever

Wonderful Medical clinic

I have been so impressed with the Medical centre. Every doctor for the past five years has been exemplary. They are helpful, sincere and ensure that they get to the bottom of the problem. The onsite pathology is also a bonus. Very happy that we have such a great service locally.

I had to have a procedure with Dr Williams. He was fabulous I huh recommend him to everyone. Extremely skillful, calm approach and ever so knowledgable. A great nurse too. I was so anxious about the procedure but both were so proficient, with a smooth and seamless ending. The nurse gave me great post procedure instructions. I was up and at in no time. A wonderful team! Wonderful people! Thank you
