My first mistake was agreeing to the $140 call out fee. They then sent out an electrician (not an aircon technician) who spent 10 minutes talking to someone else on his phone about what could be wrong with my split system aircon.

He proceeded to tell me I had a few options: a) that someone could come back the following day to run an $800 diagnostic error test, which would most likely result in other parts needing replacement (probably looking at 2 grand he says) option b) a new unit can be installed for $7999!!! I could buy a second hand car for that price! I did not go ahead with it and sent him on his way. Hearing that put me in a great deal of distress. And for people who don’t know any better they think this is standard and go ahead and pay. The technician even tried to pressure me by saying it would get awfully hot the next few days, also asked what I did for a living and that they offered interest free repayment plans. What an absolutely disgusting company. I wish I had read the reviews before I’d called them. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!

Unfortunately we had paid our upfront non-refundable $140 fee before reading these reviews. We were hoping that we would be an exception to all these bad experiences, but unfortunately not. Technician arrived. He stood and looked at the unit (not in the unit, just the exterior) played with the remote control, then looked at the exterior unit and the switchboard. Took some photos of the switchboard, then turned around and said we can run a diagnostic test for $799. When we declined to spend that amount of money he turned around and left......without even looking in the unit - he was here for less than 5minutes. Truly appalling company - this is just money taking operation, Do not use!

$141 call-out fee, as they expect people not to follow through with the actual price when they arrive.

Wanted to charge me $1500 to tighten flare nut and put a pressure test on with Nitrogen in no more than 2metres of pipe. then $500 more to regas.

Wish I never used them and never will again, very disappointed.

Their business model is to charge a non-refundable call out fee of $140 prior to quoting the price of servicing air-conditioners. Once they arrived, a simple annual service of our air-conditioners was then quoted at $1,190 per unit (or $4,760 for 4 units). Previous companies have charged a total of $350 for 4 units.



I was outraged and said that I would take them to ACCC if they didn't refund the non-refundable call-out fee. To their credit they did not charge the fee but this business model is so outrageous I had to post a review. They apparently get a 'few wins' every so often when customers go ahead which makes me think they just prey on the vulnerable. I hope you read this review and change your business model Metropolitan Air-Con.

They came in the time allotted but as per other reviews - outrageously priced the work to be done. $4200 to replace 1 split system in my sons room. $1100 to replace rubber seals in my bedroom unit - he was here 10 mins - Even Doctors don't earn $140 for 10 mins - disgusting! I will be exposing this mob!

The one star is for the technician who came

out for the quote. He was polite and helpful. If I could give zero for the company I would. Luckily I had just had a similar unit put in for about 1/3 of the price so I knew what they were charging was just outrageous when they quoted over $6000! Sure I was expecting to pay a little more for the convenience...but not $4000! Losing the deposit was worth it. Also worth waiting an extra couple of weeks to save thousands of dollars. Customer beware!!

These guys are responsive but are highly overpriced. Paid $140 for a technician to come to my place to quote a job - service my panasonic ducted airconditioner. He quoted $1300 for a service. I didn't proceed and the $140 was non-refundable. The most expensive 5 minute conversation that I've ever had. buyer beware. Find someone local.

I was totally dumb founded. Same as another review. The guy just stood there did nothing and I mean Nothing, stared up at my system and then said my heating was unrepairable unless I paid almost $4000 for a part or to get a new system worth $6000. When I asked him how he came to that conclusion - he said well it’s just what you told me! What! He did nothing but stare up at my system told me my warranty had expired but it’s only a few years old - I asked for him to just do a basic check then he said why bother it won’t do anything and a service is $700 - I was am still are gobsmacked!

I had to pay $130 booking fee before he arrived but after he left I rang to complain and to get my money back - I Got Refund within seconds and the poor complaints man had been on the phone with complaints All day! No question in getting my money back!

NEVER USE THEM! OR ANYTHING TO DO WITH JIMS! YOU WILL REGRET IT!

Terribly expensive charged me $140 call out fee and then $600 to tell me my split system needs to be replaced so basically $740 for a quote ! Then quoted $7000 to replace the unit which cost less than $2000. Ridiculous never using them again.

Needed the box on the roof replaced in my evap system because fan and water pump not working properly. A week of heat was coming. The work was not done by Metropolitan but sub-contracted to Jim's Plumbing. The callout fee was $140+ and the total price was 2-3 times what the unit normally costs. Was forced to make a purchase decision on the spot, which I now regret. If it's not absolutely urgent, get at least 3 quotes. This company charges like a wounded bull!
